I. Product Overview
A Pup joint is a pipeline with special connection forms at both ends, such as thread, flange, or union, and is widely used in oil drilling, cementing and fracturing, and testing operations. Its specifications range from 1 ″ to 6″, with a rated working pressure of 14 to 140 MPa ( 2000 psi to 20000 psi). Various models of Pup joints are available for use in ordinary, low-temperature, and hydrogen sulfide ( H 2 S) containing environments.
The Pup joints designed and manufactured by our company are forged from high-quality alloy structural steel. They include: union-type Pup joints (pressure-threaded sealed Pup joints, non-pressure-threaded sealed Pup joints, integral pipes), flange-type Pup joints (integral Pup joints, welded flange Pup joints), pressure-threaded sealed Pup joints, non-pressure-threaded sealed Pup joints, integral Pup joints, and integral flange Pup joints.
II. Design Features
All technical parameters and performance of the Pup joint comply with API 6A specifications. It is interchangeable with similar products from SPM company.
The Pup joint is made of high-strength alloy steel, manufactured using a special strengthening and toughening process, giving it the characteristics of being easy and quick to dismantle, and having a secure and reliable connection. The multiple sealing design and extremely high processing accuracy ensure the sealing performance of the entire pipeline.
-
The ends of the high-pressure integral straight pipe (or integral Pup joint) are equipped with a union, eliminating the need for threaded connections, making them safer and more reliable.
-
Convenient and quick to load and unload (install and dismantle).
-
High strength and light weight.

Flange Type Pup Joint (Integral Flange Pup Joint, Welded Flange Pup Joint)
-
Working Pressure: Extremely high pressure ratings, from 42 MPa ( ≈ 6000 psi) up to 140 MPa ( ≈ 20000 psi).
-
Nominal Bore: Specific API sizes often used in wellhead and flow control equipment ( 2 1/ 16 ″ to 4 1/16 ″).
-
Material Class ( EE): According to API 6A, EE signifies a material suitable for Sour Service ( H 2 S Service), requiring compliance with stringent standards like NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 to resist sulfide stress cracking ( SSC).
-
Temperature Class ( PU): Covers a standard to low-temperature range, typically sufficient for most global oil and gas applications. ( P is −29 ℃ to 82 ℃; U is −46 ℃ to 60 ℃ - Note: The combined range of −29 ℃ to 121 ℃ is a specific combination indicating capability for a broad range of temperatures.)

V. Instructions for Use
-
Product Confirmation: Before use, the rated working pressure, applicable specifications, and permissible temperature range must be confirmed from the nameplate.
-
Temperature Selection: Operators should consider the temperatures the equipment will experience during drilling/production operations, select an appropriate temperature value, and use the assembly pipeline compatible with that permissible temperature.
-
Hydrostatic Testing:
-
The assembly pipelines undergo strict hydrostatic pressure tests and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) before leaving the factory.
-
After dismantling or repairing, a hydrostatic pressure test must be performed.
-
Test Pressure: Must be the rated working pressure.
-
Hold Time: Maintain pressure for 10 minutes, with no visible leakage.
-
Note: Air must be vented from the system before testing.
- Wall Thickness Inspection: The assembly pipeline should be checked regularly (recommended monthly) using an ultrasonic thickness gauge. If the effective thickness value is not met, the pipeline must be replaced immediately. Replacement should be done along with other associated fittings.
- Operational Limits: The assembly pipeline must not be immersed in water or work underwater; it must not bear axial load during operation.
- Safety Protection: During installation, operators should wear protective eyewear to prevent small flying fragments from causing eye injury.
V. Warnings
- Over-pressurization: It is strictly prohibited to use the pipeline under conditions exceeding its rated working pressure.
- Temperature Limits:
- The designed working temperature range is −46 ℃ 121 ℃.
- Use must cease immediately if the ambient temperature drops below −46 ℃ or the fluid temperature exceeds 121 ℃.
- Dismantling Safety: The assembly pipeline must not be dismantled while the system is under working pressure.
- Thickness and Mixing:
- It is strictly prohibited to use the pipeline if it fails to meet the specified wall thickness.
- It is strictly prohibited to mix new and old assembly pipelines together.
VI. Transportation and Storage
-
Transportation: Collision is strictly prohibited, and rain exposure must be avoided during transportation.
-
Storage: The pipeline should be stored in a ventilated, dry place, protected from sun exposure and rain. Contact with corrosive substances such as acids, alkalis, and salts is strictly prohibited.
VII. Service
-
Quality Guarantee: Under normal storage and use conditions, the company is responsible for free replacement or repair if normal use is affected by manufacturing quality within six months from the date of ex-factory or within three months of product usage.
-
Accompanying Documents: Each product is provided with a Certificate of Conformity, a Packing List, and an Instruction Manual.
-
Ordering: Users can order the assembly pipeline based on the required pipe diameter and length. The company can also design and manufacture products for special requirements.
-
Feedback: For any suggestions or criticisms regarding the company's products, please fill out the "User Opinion Survey Form" attached at the back and send it via email.
