I. Product Overview
Our company manufactures Plug Valves with a Product Specification Level (PSL) of PSL3 and a Performance Requirement Level (PRL) of PR2. These valves are fully interchangeable with comparable products from companies like SPM, and are widely used in cementing and fracturing equipment.
-
The High-Pressure Plug Valve is a critical component for connecting high-pressure manifolds during cementing, well completion, and fracturing operations, and is also suitable for controlling other high-pressure fluids. The main components of the plug valve include the valve body, sealing segments (or arc pieces), and the plug.
-
All Low-Torque High-Pressure Plug Valves designed and manufactured by our company are forged from high-quality, high-strength alloy structural steel. Strict heat treatment ensures uniform and consistent metallurgical structure and pressure bearing capacity. The materials used fully comply with US ASTM and AISI standards, and the product's technical specifications completely meet the API Spec 6A standard. The end connections can be designed with line pipe threads, tubing threads, butt-weld ends, or non-pressure seal ends.
-
High-Pressure Plug Valve end connections are available in three main types: Hammer Union (Wing Union) Plug Valves, LP internal thread connections, and TBG external thread connections. We can also design high-pressure plug valves with a base upon customer request.
-
High-Pressure Plug Valve sizes include 1", 2", and 3". Cold Working Pressure (CWP) ratings are available in four grades: 42 MPa (6,000 Psi), 70 MPa (10,000 Psi), 105 MPa (15,000 Psi), and 140 MPa (20,000 Psi). We can provide plug valves and repair kits for use in normal temperature, low temperature, and sour gas (H₂S-containing) service conditions.
II. Design Features
The plug valve consists of parts such as the valve body, plug, and sealing segments. The working principle is: flow is controlled by adjusting the position of the plug via the handwheel. Sealing between the valve body and the plug is achieved by the sealing segments. Due to the high precision of the sealing segments and the use of a special grinding process, the product ensures no leakage under high working pressure conditions.
-
Stable Pressure Bearing: Equipped with a replaceable resilient Nitrile rubber sealing ring (O-ring) and a robust, thick-walled design, sufficient to withstand pressure on high-pressure pipelines.
-
Easy Interchangeability: The end connections use union heads or can be connected with internal and external threads (LP, TBG). They feature full imperial sizing and are fully interchangeable with foreign products.
-
Simple Maintenance: The plug valve's maintenance and upkeep do not require removal from the pipeline, and no special tools are needed for disassembly.
-
Excellent Sealing and Corrosion Resistance: The finely machined plug undergoes a special coating process, resulting in excellent sealing performance and anti-corrosion effects.
-
Visible Valve Position: The plug cap is clearly marked to indicate the valve's fully open or closed position. A locking spring restrains the valve in the desired position.

IV. Operating Instructions
-
The operator should select the appropriate temperature rating by considering the temperature the equipment will experience during drilling and/or production operations.
-
All plug valves are subjected to strict hydrostatic pressure tests and non-destructive testing (NDT) before leaving the factory. After disassembly or repair, a hydrostatic pressure test must be performed. The test pressure shall be the rated working pressure, held for 10 minutes, with no visible leakage (Note: All air must be bled from the system before testing).
-
When installing the plug valve, the operator should wear protective eyewear to prevent small flying debris from injuring the eyes during the installation process.
V. Warnings
-
Do not use the valve under conditions exceeding the rated working pressure.
-
The plug valve is designed to operate within a temperature range of −46 ℃ to 121 ℃. Immediately stop using the valve if the ambient temperature drops below −46 ℃ or if the contacted fluid temperature exceeds 121 ℃.
-
Do not disassemble the plug valve while the system is under working pressure.
-
When tightening the hammer union, ensure the hammer force or tightening torque applied does not cause deformation or damage to the nut.
VI. Malfunctions, Causes, and Solutions
| Malfunction |
Cause |
Solution |
| Leakage at the Bonnet Thread |
1.Bonnet / Cover Insufficiently Tightened |
Re-tighten to Specification |
| 2.Aging/Deterioration of the Bonnet O-ring Seal |
Replace the O-ring seal. |
| 3.Damaged or Worn Bonnet / Cover |
Replace the Bonnet/Cover (Must be manufactured by our company). |
| 4.In the 2" plug valve, the O-ring support ring was not installed or was installed incorrectly. |
Install the support ring onto the O-ring with the concave side facing the O-ring; the O-ring should be positioned below and the support ring above. |
| 5.Severe scoring/galling on the top edge of the valve body bore. |
Polish any scores or pitting on the sealing surface using 400-grit sandpaper; replace the valve body if necessary. |
| Visible leakage in the flow path when the valve is closed. |
1.Seal Segments from different manufacturers were installed. |
The Seal Segments must be replaced with those from the same manufacturer. |
| 2.The sealing surfaces of the Seal Segments or the Valve Body are scored or pitted. |
Polish the sealing surface using 400-grit sandpaper, or replace the Seal Segments or the Valve Body as necessary. |
| 3.The Plug is scored, worn, or corroded. |
Replace the Plug. |
| 4.Dirt/debris on the inner surface of the Valve Body or the inner/outer surfaces of the Seal Segments, preventing tight contact between the Plug and the Seal Segments, or the Valve Body bore and the Square Seal Ring, thus compromising the seal. |
Disassemble the components and clean out all foreign material. If the valve body inner surface has too many scores or pits, the Valve Body must be replaced. |
| 5.The Seal Segments were not installed correctly or were damaged during installation, causing leakage at the segment location. |
Reinstall the Seal Segments, and replace them if necessary. |
| 6.The Square Seal Ring is aged, worn, or damaged. |
Replace the Square Seal Ring. |
| 7.The Plug Cap was installed incorrectly, forcing the Plug to tilt. |
The Plug Cap must be from our company (or the same manufacturer). |
| Leakage from the Bottom |
1.The Bonnet/Cover or Plug Cap is incompatible with other components (mismatch). |
Install all components manufactured by our company. |
| 2.The bottom Plug O-ring seal or support ring is aged, damaged, or deformed. |
Remove and reinstall the O-ring seal and its support ring. |
| Leakage at the Plug Top |
1.The top Plug O-ring seal and support ring are damaged or aged, preventing a complete seal. |
Reinstall the O-ring seal and its support ring. |
| 2.The Bonnet/Cover is not tightened, or foreign material on the shoulder is preventing proper tightening. |
Re-tighten the Bonnet/Cover to specification. |
| 3.The Bonnet/Cover is damaged or worn. |
Replace the component. |
| Valve Fails to Fully Open or Close |
1.The Plug Cap is damaged or worn, or it is incompatible with the valve body. |
Remove and install a new Plug Cap. |
2.The inner surface of the valve body is unclean (dirty). |
Re-clean the relevant parts and reassemble. |
3.The stop spring pin is interfering with the Plug Cap. |
Locate the correct position and tighten the pin. |
| Seal Ring Swelling, Softening, or Sticking |
Buna-N (Nitrile Rubber) and Nylon seals must not come into contact with solutions such as Toluene or Xylene. |
The seals must be replaced. |
VII. Repair and Maintenance
-
Clean all disassembled parts to ensure they are free of debris, oil stains, and rust. After cleaning, inspect the metal components for scoring or marks and the non-metal components for deformation or failure. If marks are found on metal parts, gently file them off using a fine-toothed set of files, then polish with metallographic sandpaper, and wipe clean. If non-metal parts are found to be deformed or failed, they must be replaced immediately.
-
During each repair, the valve body must undergo a magnetic particle inspection (MPI) on all surfaces. The results must satisfy the Level 2 requirements of standard JB/T 4730. The repair facility must record and archive these results promptly.
VIII. Transportation and Storage
-
During transportation, the plug valve must be strictly protected against collision and rain.
-
The plug valve should be stored in a ventilated, dry place, protected from direct sunlight and rain. It must not come into contact with corrosive substances such as acids, alkalis, or salts.
IX. Service
-
Under normal storage and usage conditions, if the product cannot be used normally due to manufacturing quality issues within one year from the date of delivery or within six months of use, our company is responsible for replacement or warranty repair free of charge.
-
Each product is accompanied by a Certificate of Conformity, a Packing List, and an Operation Manual.
-
All parts, except for the valve body, are considered wearing parts (consumables).
